SCIENTRICITY: Energizing Science Clubbers for Sustainable Energy

Every month of September, we celebrate the Science month and the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC) introduced this year’s theme which is SCIENTRICITY. The word is a combination of two words which are Science and electricity. The PSYSC as the largest umbrella of science clubbers in the country has its role to induce students and teachers to the conservation of energy.
Electricity is very important in the world. We can find energy everywhere. We all use energy to do work. We are now living in a modern world and there were different things that were invented and make our life better. Washing machines, computers, oven, electric fans, air conditioners, and other inventions made to help us accomplish our daily tasks and also gave us faster and easier work are really helpful yet they cannot function without the presence of electricity. We can see how our society has become a power-defendant. Simple things or tasks such as waking up on a designated time or just to enjoy listening to some piece of music requires us the use of electricity. See, how electricity affects our lives? It was really a constantly developing technology so we should conserve and use it wisely.

Here are some was to conserve energy:
  1. Turn off the lights when you leave the room.
  2. Unplug things when you are not using them.
  3. Turn off the television.
  4. Open shades instead of turning on lights.
  5. Change to CF or LED lights
  6. Instead of leaving your computer on all the time, turn it off or at least the monitor
  7. Line dry your clothing
  8. Cleaning the coils on your refrigerator.
  9. Put large jugs of water in your freezer
  10. Keep the heat down if you have electric energy.
  11. Turn outdoor motion lights off if you do not need them or turn down the sensitivity.
  12. Try using a Solar Cooker once
  13. Install solar panels
  14. When cooking, use a lid to keep the heat in.
  15. Install a Tankless water heater
  16. Buy a hand can opener instead of wasting electricity on the plugin version
  17. Put wrap on your windows to conserve energy
  18. Stay away from high power usage TV models
  19. Use power strips and turn off the entire strip when not in use.
  20. Buy a solar power battery charger
Now we should  THINK, ACT and SAVE! Cause if we don't, we will suffer the consequences.

Our Teachers, Our Heroes

I could not imagine our life without our second parents which were our teachers. Can anyone be doctors, lawyers, nurses or farmers? How could we survive without knowledge?

Our teachers are some of the greatest people whom we can cross in our life. Aside from my parents, my teachers were also my heroes because they were always a part of my journey for a bright and successful future. A teacher’s definition wasn’t just limited to a subject teacher because I believe that anyone who guides us in our life and know how to appreciate our efforts is a teacher. They inspire us to be well-rounded citizens and they let us discover our own strengths and weaknesses so that we can understand better the things that we encounter.
Teaching was known to be the profession that teaches all professions. There will never be engineers, accountants, architects, business mans, etc. if not with the existence of our real great teachers. Whenever we seem to fall and hopeless in carrying our loads, our teachers will always be ready to help us and they serve as our counterparts so that we will not be into a downfall. They would always be heroes of my life and I will always remember their devotions and sacrifices for students like me.
To all the teachers around the world, I am thankful for all your hard works and efforts you have put in molding and educating students.

HAPPY TEACHERS’ DAY MA’AMS AND SIRS!

My Parents, My Heroes

Everyone of us has different visions and beliefs about what a hero is. We can see in televisions so many heroes portrayed by Superman, Batman, Hawkgirl, Teen Titans, Ben 10, etc. Yes, these were some of my favorite hero characters in cartoons but they can never reach up to the point on how I admire and love my most favorite heroes of all-MY PARENTS. For me, they were the most special gift given to me. These cartoon characters were all fictitious and were just created by man to give us entertainment while they also give us lessons applicable on our real lives. A hero for me is someone or the people who are willing to give their hundred and one percent effort to protect me from pain. They would always be there for me and they care for me no matter what.

When my mother left for work to another country, it was then that I realized how much of heroes my mother and father was. It was then that I completely understood how they love us and that they would do everything to give us what we need-food, shelter, education and love. They may not be perfect parents but I adore and I want to be just like them. Though my mother is faraway, she still makes sure that we are good and healthy. There were those times that I really miss her but I just tell to myself that I would be just fine and that I should not waste my parents' sacrifices.

I hope someday, I would also be someone's hero. We can all be heroes in our own special way of showing love, care and dedication to others. I hope that when time comes that I would also have ,y own family, I would also share and apply that things that I have learned from my mother and father. I still have a long way to go before I can reach my goal in life and these things that I learned from my parents will be my instrument for me to carry and apply to achieve my goal and dreams. I love my family. I love my mother and father. I may not show it often but I will always do my best to do what they want me to be and that is to be successful. I am very proud of them and I know someday, they will always be proud of me. I am really thankful that God gave me such wonderful, caring, vibrant and loving parents. They taught me things or knowledge required to make me a good member of the society. My mother always reminds me not to be afraid to show who I am. My father is always there for me. I know that he loves us though he don't actually say it. It was shown through his actions. I am thankful to him that he takes care of us while our mother is not around. My parents are my heroes, as to what they always been.
